What do you think of Magnus? Why do you think he turned Lestat so quickly but not any of those others in the tower?

Also, who else noticed the very things Lestat would laugh at Louis for doing, like getting enamoured with candle flames, were very distracting for him in the beginning too?

Yeah, I definitely noticed the being enamored with candles thing! I wonder if Lestat was trying to push those memories away because they are in some ways painful for him, since he has possibly lost that sense of wonder now. It's become commonplace to him, no longer something worth marveling at, and that's sad, so he laughs at Louis to hide his jealousy.

And yeah, I don't know about Magnus. I think maybe at this point he's had More Than A Few failed attempts and he's getting really tired of being disappointed, which is why he seemed to stalk Lestat for so long. Longer, perhaps, than he did any of the others? So he's sure that Lestat is the one, and is in such a hurry to be released that he doesn't even wait.

With Magnus, I think the answer might be that Lestat is the only one who fought back, who didn't cower. He seems to admire Lestat for his strength and then admonish him when he appeals to God. I feel like he was looking a survivor, someone who wasn't going to be squeamish about being a vampire, someone worthy.
I think this makes sense, because Magnus wasn't someone that being a vampire was forced on. He stole it. He actively sought it. It makes a certain sense then that he would want a successor worthy of that power.

Why go into the flames, then? That's the question I'm left with.
